Pride Season 2025 Has Started!

June marks the start of Pride Season, marking the beginning of a wide range of events, from June to September, celebrating the 2SLGBTQI+ community across Canada. Here in Alberta, we want to recognize the powerful contributions of queer individuals to our province’s creative and cultural life. We’ve also gathered a list of resources you can access to learn more about queer history, creative organizations, advocacy groups, and places you can get involved. We hope this can be a launch point of how you can support the queer community year-round!

Alberta’s creative economy is a vibrant and diverse ecosystem that spans broadcasting, digital media, film, visual arts, crafts, museums, literature, publishing, fashion, performing arts, and more, each contributing to the cultural fabric of the province. What’s especially encouraging is the growing presence and representation of queer voices within this dynamic landscape.

Whether through fulfilling creative occupations, starting enterprises, engaging with arts communities, or advocating for legislation, the 2SLGBTQI+ community has played a strong role in developing and advancing the creative economy in Alberta, in Canada, and internationally.

Organizations like Calgary Queer Arts and Common Ground Arts have worked to meaningfully elevate underrepresented voices through diverse art and storytelling. Both are examples of dedicated organizations with the aim of building a flourishing arts ecosystem by dismantling barriers and integrating and celebrating queer stories.

Alberta has a strong history of Pride movements and queer organizations filled with inspiring individuals working to provide resources, advocacy, and opportunity for the community. Whether you are queer identifying or an ally we encourage you to check out and share this list of resources. While the rainbow flags may be out this June, the struggles of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, particularly queer youth, require constant support and advocacy. This Pride season, we encourage allies to show up in meaningful, lasting ways and move toward true support.

Advocacy resources:

To connect trans and gender diverse youth, adults, and families with comprehensive and low barrier access to the support they need and deserve.

To share the diverse stories of LGBTQ2S+ youth between ages 12 – 24 living in the Edmonton area to promote increased understanding, empathy, and knowledge of this community’s specific needs, strengths, and experiences.

We work to advance dignity, freedom, justice, and security through collaborative relationships and transformative education on peace and human rights.

TESA's mission is to be a witness to and a voice for matters concerning trans Albertans.
