Downtown Edmonton lit up over the summer!

September 23, 2024 | Edmonton, Events, What's Happening

We had the opportunity to partner with the Edmonton Downtown Business Association to transform Rice Howard Way into the Entertainment District! Every Saturday afternoon (1 PM to 9 PM) from June 1 to August 24, Rice Howard Way turned into a summer block party complete with live music from local artists and DJs, a kids’ zone, and family friendly outdoor activities!

Rice Howard Way is a popular downtown street filled with many local bars and restaurants. Closing off the street to cars, the Entertainment District became a pedestrian-friendly hangout zone where visitors could grab a drink and a bite to eat and take a seat outside to take in the sights.

Surrounding bars:

  • Rosewood Foods

  • Sherlock Holmes

  • Bianco

  • CRAFT Beer Market

  • Dalla Tavola Zenari

  • Often Restaurant + Bar

Surrounding restaurants:

  • A&G Burger (10127 100A Street)

  • Subway (10036 Jasper Ave)

  • Aroma Cafe & Bar (10119  Rice Howard Way)

  • Great Canadian Pizza (10135 100A Street)

This year, The Entertainment District came alive with vibrant performances from 55 artists and vendors, including a diverse lineup of DJs, singer-songwriters, and performance artists. Adding an extra layer of excitement, street performers like Ron Pearson Magic, Jay Flair, and Jordan the Juggler wowed visitors during many weekends!

True to its name, The Entertainment District offered a range of games and activities for friends and families alike. Visitors enjoyed giant Jenga, cornhole, table tennis, and more! Kids were treated to free activities such as face painting and balloon twisting by Dave Wildson and Miss Ladybug, alongside creative fun with Catherine McMillan and Simon Glassman Caricatures. Jade Rickey and her team, Riri & Kathleen, hosted a craft corner and face painting station, making sure the little ones were entertained.

The Entertainment District brought a fresh buzz to Rice Howard Way, creating an accessible hangout in downtown Edmonton. Its prime location, surrounded by local bars and restaurants, made it a hit with visitors seeking a lively downtown experience.
