Winter Magic in Edmonton: Highlights from Winter Whyte Light Up 2024

December 18, 2024 | Edmonton, Events, What's Happening

This year’s Winter Whyte Light Up brought a dazzling array of interactive light displays, family-friendly activities, streetcar rides, delicious food, photo opportunities, and the debut of the Winter Whyte Light Up Variety Show!

In partnership with the Old Strathcona Business Association, we helped transform Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park into a twinkling winter wonderland. The park's gazebo, trees, and pathways lit up to usher in the holiday season! When Jack Frost made an unexpected icy appearance, we worked with local partners like Fringe Theatre, Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market, and the Edmonton Public Library to move live performances indoors, giving visitors even more reasons to explore the vibrant Old Strathcona district.

Here’s a closer look at the festival magic:

Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market

The market buzzed with local vendors and family-friendly fun. Guests posed with Anna and Elsa, enjoyed balloon animals, face painting, and admired the icy artistry of a carver crafting… Olaf!

Edmonton Public Library

The Strathcona Library was alive with holiday cheer. Visitors enjoyed a lively puppet show, created festive crafts, fireside storytelling snapped photos at the photo booth, and were serenaded by the Knox Carolers.

Streetcar Platform

A quintessential Edmonton experience, the historic Streetcar offered scenic holiday rides. Visitors also explored the Streetcar Museum, checking out a bit of Edmonton’s history.

McIntyre Park & Surrounding Area

Despite the frosty weather, festival-goers explored enchanting light installations throughout the park. Highlights included roving entertainers, fireside storytelling, and a food truck to warm up the festivities.

Fringe Theatre Arts Barns

The Fringe Theatre Arts Barns was abuzz with performances spanning live music, improv, drag shows, and magic acts. Just outside, festival-goers met roving performers and visited booths supporting the Edmonton Food Bank and The Mustard Seed.
